How do I allow users to update Lotus Notes Intranet without changing the main template?

I am building a company intranet using Domino Designer. The problem I
have is I would like each of the departments in the company to be
responsible for updating their own content, however I would not like
them to be able to update the main intranet template. The people who
would be doing the updates would be novice Notes users and would only
be adding text and pictures here and there. I have searched the
internet and come up with a little information but not enough for me to
understand the best way to create an intranet that would allow me to do
this. I remember in the past I used an intranet built with Domino where
I could add text and images into a template which was fixed and I could
not alter. This would be ideal but I do not know how the people who
owned it did it. Would it be a case of just assigning each user various
permissions within Notes or is there more to this dilemma I have? Any
    pointers or advice is welcomed.

    Thanks,
    Adam Ransom.

  2. Use Author fields to control who can edit certain documents in the
    database.
Don't give them design access, or let them modify the template. Build
the solution based on documents, and let the user (at document
creation) select which department(s) can edit the documents
    afterwards.

It sounds like you are on a wrong approach. You are not that detailed
in what you have been doing this far, but it sounds like you are
building the intranet content into the design... That is wrong. But i
may also not understand what you are doing...
You may want to hire someone that know more about Notes and Domino...
    I am available. ;-)

or you may want to buy something like this: http://www.xsight.co.uk

You need to start from the bottom - come up with a design standard for
the entire site, and then build yourself a content management system to
allow normal notes users to edit the stuff that appears. Or you could
buy an off the shelf package.
